Transforming Shelters. Changing Lives.
Every animal deserves a safe, clean, and comfortable place to stay while waiting for their next chapter.
The Small Shelter Makeover Program, presented by Carole Chapuis, was created to help small, established animal shelters and rescue organizations improve facilities that are rundown, outdated, or simply no longer meeting the needs of the animals in their care.
Through education, renovation, and rehabilitation, our goal is to make a lasting difference for shelters, the people who run them, and most importantly, the animals they serve.
Could Your Shelter Use Some Help?
We are looking for small, established animal shelters and rescue facilities that are doing important work in their communities but need help improving their physical spaces.
Potential improvements may include:
-
Kennels, runs, gates, and fencing
-
Cage-free rooms
-
Floors, walls, and paint
-
Plumbing, drainage, and wash areas
-
Heating, cooling, and ventilation
-
Laundry, storage, and organization
-
Quarantine, intake, and medical areas
-
Outdoor play areas and shade
-
Sanitation and infection-control improvements
Who Should Apply?
The initial application is intended for established, currently operating 501(c)(3) animal shelters and rescues with facilities in need of improvement.
Organizations should be committed to maintaining completed improvements, participating in education when needed, and providing compassionate care to the animals they serve.
How It Works
1. Submit Your Initial Application
Tell us about your organization, facility, animals, and the improvements you need.
2. Applications Are Reviewed
The initial application helps us determine which shelters may be a good fit for the program.
3. Selected Shelters Move Forward
Organizations chosen for further consideration will be invited to complete a more detailed second-stage application and may be asked to participate in a site visit or live video walkthrough.
